Approximately 40% of women with infertility are also affected by endometriosis. One in ten women suffers from endometriosis. The most common symptoms include pelvic pain as well as pain during intercourse, and heavy menstrual cycles. It is also common for patients to be asymptomatic. The diagnosis may be suspected from a patient's history and a physical exam, however, a definitive diagnosis can only be made by Laparoscopy. Treatment is highly variable based on patient complaints and fertility desires. Often times medications can be used, but surgery may also be necessary.
